Stefan's story

ESPT's chief energizing officer is Stefan Paul Angheli. Stefan is the founder and dynamo of this dynamic health fitness company.

Stefan's easygoing, witty and sometimes provocative personality combined with a strong foundation of education was evident from an early age when studying high school at Chisholm College here in Melbourne. He appeared on the front cover of the school yearbook in 1995, when in Year 12 he was voted "Most likely to be an unexpected success".

Success? Well...Yes. Unexpected? No...not if he can help it.

Ever since his arrival in Australia in 1988 from communist run Romania, he was skipped up a grade and started in Grade 5 even with his limitations of the English language. His love of sports and physical activity, allowed him to represent his primary school at the sport of soccer and then his high school in tennis. During high school he was a stand out class performer and earned numerous 'A' report cards.

He was admitted to Swinburne University in Hawthorn, Melbourne, to complete a Bachelor of Applied Science in Medical Biophysics and Instrumentation. During this time, he was given the opportunity to work and live at the world-renowned sports facilities of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra.

In his one year there, he worked and studied at the Department of Physiology and Applied Nutrition alongside some of the world's leading researchers in elite human performance. Amongst them were Dr. Allan Hahn and his always-focused team consisting of Dr. David Pyne, Dr. David T. Martin and strength guru Dr. Peter Logan.

Apart from extensive research in the area of elite human performance, this dedicated team of sport scientists, were also committed to providing physiological sports testing and performance enhancing directions to a range of Australia's top athletes. Amongst them were swimmers Michael Klim and Alexander Popov, 100m runner Matt Shervington, hurdler Kyle VanderKyup, cyclist Anna Wilson and mountain bike king Cadel Evans and countless other elite sports celebrities.

It was while working at the AIS that Stefan's life purpose was ignited. This was to provide the latest, most effective performance enhancing techniques to the average person and empower them to apply, so that they could lead a larger life. To further realize this goal, he compiled a detailed referenced report on the "The impact of physical exercise on physical and mental health" which will serve as the foundation of his upcoming book and website located at exercisehealth.com .

His passion to help the average person, who's biggest health fitness concern is weight control, led him to research and dispel the myth that aerobic exercise is the best way for losing weight. His AIS peers watched and listened as Stefan lectured on, "The effectiveness of resistance training for long term weight loss". The subject was well received, generating a healthy discussion afterwards. The consensus reached was that resistance training was indeed vital to permanent weight loss or more specifically bodyfat loss.

Working at the AIS in Physiology and Applied Nutrition gave Stefan a unique look into the human body and it's training adaptations at this, the highest of levels. But since Stefan was also living with the athletes at the AIS Residences, he was able to witness firsthand the importance of proper nutrition and effective supplementation. Training is only half the battle and at the AIS Residences and the accompanying dining hall, was where the other equally important part of the battle was fought: performance nutrition and quality sleep.

Upon ending this remarkable year, Stefan is one of a very select number of people to be awarded an Industry Based Learning Scheme (IBLS) in Physiology and Applied Nutrition for his work at the Australian Institute of Sport.

Due to his commitment to education, Stefan went back to Melbourne in 1999 to complete his university degree. He was awarded a Bachelor of Applied Science in Medical Biophysics in early 2000 from Swinburne University of Technology. That same year he also completed a Certified Fitness Trainer course from the International Sports Science Association (ISSA). This world-recognized certification was the beginning of his successful transition into personal training and health fitness.

In late 1999, after his final year of university had just finished, Stefan was immediately offered a position with AirLiquide Healthcare as a Clinical Educator. His main task was to offer education and support to the healthcare industry and more specifically, sleep apnea sufferers. However all along Stefan knew this was not what he was meant to do. He resigned after six months to focus solely on his passion for health fitness and allow others to share in his extensive knowledge and experience an energy surging lifestyle.

Since his return from the Australian Institute of Sport, Stefan has worked on a casual basis in several health and fitness clubs throughout Melbourne. Stefan was elected and held the position of Health and Fitness Director at Swinburne University Sports and Recreation (SUSR) in 2000. His work there included a health fitness column, which was published weekly in the university newspaper, "The Swine".

Stefan has just completed what is referred to as the "certification of distinction" in the personal training and sport conditioning industry. He is now a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). The NSCA is the only nationally accredited certification in the fitness industry in the United States. It is the only certification accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies.

Stefan is also a professional member of the two oldest and most highly respected organizations in the sports and conditioning field: the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

Stefan is currently Chief Energizing Officer (CEO) of ESPT, Managing Director of Authentic Health Fitness Australia (AHFA) and Editor-in-Chief of healthfitness.com.au.
